About this cartoon: California's massive budget deficit led to a sloppy, patched-together and very late budget compromise that passed with not a vote to spare... and which required voter approval on five separate ballot measures in order to ratify this budget. The mood of the voters is angry, and all the measures are likely to fail... but if this happens, the fragile compromise is tossed out, the deficit grows, and the only likely alternative is severe, draconian cuts in every aspect of state spending — a virtual train wreck ahead.
