About this cartoon: California, like much of the nation, expressed anger and dismay at Arizona's passage of a new, strictanti- immigration policy that could lead to Latinos being stopped by police for looking suspicious (i.e., being Latino); all Arizona citizens must be able to prove their citizenship at all times. Some California cities and legislators have called for boycotts of Arizona. But California itself riled Latinos with passage of Prop. 187 in 1994, a hard-edged measure that was invalidated by the courts and which left many Latinos deeply turned off by the Republican party, which had championed the measure.
