About this cartoon: Alternative weeklies have gotten to be big business, with chain ownership, suburban editions, national advertising and more attention to "the bottom line," making them more like their daily competitiors.
Noteworthy: The rag-tag days of 60s underground-style alternatives are not much in evidence at the big weeklies I've seen in L.A., Seattle and the Bay Area. This was a fun cartoon to draw.
