About this cartoon: The new, larger Kindle reading device, distributed by Amazon.com is being looked at with hope by the newspaper industry as a possible salvation. The old reader was useful for reading paperback books online. What newspapers have longed for is a cheap, foldable reader that can display newspaper pages in color at a size that begins to approximate actual newspaper reading... and the new Kindle device is none of these things, although a step in the right direction. The question is, can the device be improved enough to become THE way to read newspapers... before the newspapers themselves collapse and disappear?
