About this cartoon: Gerald Ford, the "accidental president" elected to neither the presidency nor the vice-presidency, died at age 93. Considered a so-so president by historians, he nevertheless gets credit for rebuilding confidence in the office after Nixon's disgrace and resignation.
Noteworthy: My very first published editorial cartoon (in college) was about Gerald Ford; it was Sept. 1974, one month after Nixon resigned. I never was published during the Nixon era, so the Ford era became my introduction to editorial cartooning. I was no great fan of the man, but felt he deserved this obituary cartoon.
