About this cartoon: Pope John Paul II, one of the longest-reigning popes in history and certainly among the more colorful, died after many years of declining health. The spiritual leader for a billion Catholics fought Communism and oppression, but also against modernization and liberalization of the church, and has been called the most-seen person in the history of the planet.
Noteworthy: Drawn quickly hours before his death (some reports by then had said he was already dead), on a day when I was not officially allotted any cartooning time at work.
