More about this cartoon:
Title: The Rodney King verdict
Published: Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Date: May 2, 1992
About this cartoon: The videotaped beating of a black motorist with a past criminal record by white Los Angeles Police Dept. officers shocked the nation, but when a mostly-white jury acquitted the officers, all hell broke loose as L.A. exploded into a deadly race riot. Even President Bush was shocked by the verdict and called for the government to reexamine the case, which it eventually did, with an opposite conclusion.
Noteworthy: A generally well-regarded cartoon, reprinted several times including in the book Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year.
