Title: Armenia and Turkey
Published: Ventura County Star
Date: Oct. 21, 2007
About this cartoon: A measure that made its way through a Congressional panel called for the recognition of the 1915 massacre of Armenians as a genocide, which it certainly was. But the perpetrator was the predecessor to modern Turkey, and modern Turkey was incensed at being labeled as a genocide causer, threatening to cut off military bases and support to the U.S. that is crucial in the war in Iraq and recalling its ambassador. Many senators urged the measure not be passed, and at last word it was disappearing in a haze of bureaucracy.
