About this cartoon: The escalation of power by John Ashcroft and other elements regarding "homeland security" for wiretaps, detention, profiling and other actions in order to combat purported fears of enemies of the U.S. seemed to echo a situation a half century earlier.
Noteworthy:A lot of readers are too young to remember Joe McCarthy. Hopefully, enough will have read about him somewhere to understand the cartoon and know the bleak Cold War fear-mongering represented.
