About this cartoon: Jimmy Carter wanted Americans to sacrifice a bit, such as by turning down their thermostats, conserving resources and being prepared to pay more for gas and oil in an effort towards energy independence... not bad goals, given the gas shortages and OPEC manipulations during his term. But the American public was not too damn willing to deal with austerity in the glittery disco era.
