About this cartoon: Many of those Americans who are struggling badly are technically working and above the poverty line. Those earning minimum wage or even more than that might find it nearly impossible to pay for escalating housing, energy and gasoline costs while still buying food and other necessities, and if children are in the picture the situation becomes even more difficult. Many of the "working poor" are only a step away from their brethren sleeping on the sidewalks.
