About this cartoon: The widespread use of antibiotics, especially broad-spectrum ones, has had the unintended side-effect of creating drug-resistant "superbugs," those bacterial that manage to survive the antibiotics. A type of staph called MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) has evolved into a killer, and has the potential to cause huge numbers of deaths across the nation and the world.
