Title: Domestic SurVEILlance
Published: Ventura County Star
Date: Jan. 21, 2007
About this cartoon: It seems that report after report about government spying on citizens keeps coming out, the latest being domestic intelligence gathering by the Pentagon and CIA -- joining the FBI in such activity -- under a "national security letter" cover, part of the post- 9/11 mandate to do pretty much anything under the banner of "fighting terrorists;" in this case, it meant any of these agencies could examine your bank and financial records. At the same time, the Attorney General's office reluctantly (and after the fact) agreed to submit its requests for domestic wiretaps to oversight by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.
