About this cartoon: America's conservatives, primarily in the Republican Party, have been blatantly enriching the wealthy for decades to the detriment of the rest of the nation. The latest moves by the Republicans in Congress to slash food stamp aid to the poor is a particularly galling example, especially as the economic gap widens between the wealthiest and everyone else. Since the Reagan era, the top 1 percent has seen the lion's share of all economic gains, while the middle class has been essentially flat since the 1980s, with actual buying power declining.
