More about this cartoon:
Title: Dead and dying trees
Published: Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Date: Feb. 23,1996
About this cartoon: A measure under the Republican-dominated Congress was the Timber Salvage Act, which intended to speed up the logging of national forests while suspending environmental safeguards and allow the harvesting of "dead and dying" trees, some of which weren't so dead and dying after all.
Noteworthy: I rarely use the device of little side-comment panels at the end of a cartoon (regularly used by Toles and Oliphant), but every so often a follow-up quip seems appropriate..
