Title: Methyl iodide.
Published: VCReporter
Date: July 29, 2010
About this cartoon: California growers have been using methyl bromide as an effective tool to control pests; unfortunately, ite has been shown to damage the earth's ozone layer, and the substance has been ordered banned. To take its place, some in the state are calling for the use of methyl iodide, which, while less damaging to the atmoshpere, is vastly more dangerous to people who handle it or grow crops that might use it. Most scientists do not support the use of methyl iodide, but this is likely to be a political, not a scientific, decision.
